New Oracle Engineered System for application virtualization

Virtual Compute Appliance
Oracle today announced the Virtual Compute Appliance on a new integrated system can virtually practically any (x86) workloads with the user.

The Virtual Compute Appliance is the latest addition to the family of so-called Engineered Systems, which Oracle demonstrate its expertise in the integration of software and hardware and wants to sell its customers an advantage. It should , according to an announcement enable fast and repeatable installations of full-stack infrastructure. The wire-once system comes completely pre-configured. Production workloads should be possible to set up with little effort on a software-defined configuration - IBM has its similar concept Pure Systems for quite some time in the market.

The Virtual Compute Appliance, Oracle is built around an InfiniBand fabric around. Connection to existing Ethernet and Fiber Channel networks, the system finds more than pooled interconnect modules that can use any virtual machine transparently. The system has to start no single point of failure, virtualized applications can at a hardware or software errors automatically.

In addition to the in-house operating systems, Solaris and Oracle Linux (RHEL Last is based on) can be divided into virtual machines and Windows and other Linux distributions run.

Oracle's new Virtual Compute Appliance is supposed to be ready in less than an hour.

About the Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder allows customers to use pre-tested and configured Oracle VM templates and set up complete application stacks from Oracle operating system, database, middleware, and business applications. Thanks to support for Oracle Trusted Partitions Customers can take the Oracle software flexibly to vCPU base under license.

The Virtual Compute Appliance integrates into existing network and storage environments; intended to facilitate a re-hosting existing applications and, secondly, the deployment of new applications that access existing data. Managing can be the new Engineered System via the Oracle Enterprise Manager.

New nodes can be used during operation. After connecting four cables and power they are automatically recognized, configured and used by the system. When appropriate storage complement Oracle recommends the house Sun ZFS Storage Appliances.
